Tithing

Why Tithing 10% Isn't Even Close to What jesus Told Us to Do
By Matthew Robert Payne

Do you really think giving a 10% tithe is the New Testament commandment of Jesus for his followers? Do you really think that tithing 10% I what we should be doing as faithful Christians? Here is what we should be doing. You may be shocked out of what you currently do!

Do you remember the parable of Jesus where he said that a pearl diver one day found a really precious pearl? It was called the Pearl of great price. You will remember that the Peal diver went home as he worked for someone else see, and he came back with all his precious pearls that he had collected in his life of diving with his own money, and he sold them in order to buy the pearl of great price. Now the great Pearl in this story is Jesus and Jesus is saying that we should exchange all our worldly possessions for Him.

Should we take Him literally? I know many people who have and they have lives with Christ and a relationship that many would covet.

Here is another parable. Remember the man that found a precious resource in a block of land. It was called a tresure and many Bibles call the parable, Hidden Treasure. You'll remember that that man went home and sold all that he had to purchase the land with the Hidden treasure so that when he brought it to be sold he was the legal owner of the treasure. Once again Jesus is the treasure and we should give up everything for Him

Many people laugh at the rich young ruler story in the Bible when Jesus told him to sell all that he had, give it to the poor and come and follow him. Yet, many many Christians if they were asked, would not sell all they own and give it to the gospel in the East where money is really needed.

Jesus addressed the Pharisees and told them that they tithe the cumin and mint and their money but deny mercy and justice to the people. He said they were to be merciful and just as well as make all the offerings and tithes. So here was Jesus saying the New Testament Jewish leaders were to continue to tithe.

Did you know when all the gifts, the offerings and tithes were added up according to what the Law required, that the faithful Jew in those days was giving about 34% of their income each year?

The Bible says, the Lord loves a cheerful giver, but folks, giving 2% of your income is an insult to the Lord. Yes, 2% is the average tithe in the USA by Christians. Even Muslims give more to the poor each year.

Do the words of Christ ring harder now.

"If anyone wants to follow me, he must first deny himself, take up his cross and follow me."

How much do you deny yourself reader?

Food for thought!
